Teen Review: Twilight

July 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Title: Twilight
Author: Stephenie Meyer
What type of book is this? Fantasy, Drama, Teen Romance
Review by: Ashley C.
Summarize the book (without giving away the ending):
Seventeen year old Isabella Swan or Bella as she likes it, moved from sunny Arizona to rainy Forks, Washington to live with her father, Charlie. All the things she can think of is school, school, school!

On her first day of school, she notices that her new school year is going to be hard to face. She is very intrigued by the Cullen family especially the beautiful Edward Cullen.

At first it seems like Edward totally despises Bella and she can totally see it on his face but after time goes on Edward is not what he seems. Bella and Edward simply fall in love with each other and Bella finds out that Edward only seemed like he hated her because he was trying to protect her from himself because he is actually a vampire.

Throughtout Twilight, life threatining events happen and Bella and Edward’s love is challanged by the difference of their races and the fact that two particular vampires want to devour her as a delicious snack.

How did the book affect you?
Twilight affected me in many different ways. Twilight made me feel like I was with Bella and it made me feel like I was actually there! It was so realistic and descriptive!

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes, I would because I think this is a really good book and I know that my friends would enjoy it as much as I do!

Title: Septimus Heap: Queste
Author: Angie Sage
What type of book is this? Fantasy
Review by: Luke King, 18

Summarize the book (without giving away the ending):
In the fourth installment of the Septimus Heap series, Septimus and his friends trek  through the forests and other dimensions in order to bring his brother, Nikko, back from another time. To add to Septimus’ troubles, he is also sent on a dangerous queste by Tertius Fume, a cranky ghost who has it in for the wizarding world. On the way to the House of Foryx, Septimus has an encounter with a Thing, Merrin Merredith, and a Bridge Toll Man. Will the queste finally end Septimus apprenticeship to Marcia Overstrand or will he too, be stuck in another time?

How did the book affect you?
This book was an enjoyable read, and can be compared to Harry Potter, although most books that have had that comparison have come up short in my opinion. But all in all, this book will keep you up at night, reading just one more chapter and then another.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would recommend this to a friend; especially one who is still in that post “Harry Potter” slump. Though the Septimus Heap series does not contain the swagger of Harry, Ron, And Hermoine, it can be considered something to hold you over until the next Harry Potter film is released in theaters.
