Teen photographers’ own creations appear on the front cover of Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA) magazine. VOYA wants photographs that express the relationship between teens and the world of reading. Images should portray teens with any type of reading material: books, magazines, comics, computers, their own creative writing, media of any kind—even participating in library programs or other events. Pictures might be taken in teens’ bedrooms, libraries, classrooms, or outdoors—anywhere on the Planet Read.
Photographs taken by teens must be submitted through a librarian, teacher, or other adult sponsor, and are accepted throughout the year. The contest is ongoing. Go to the VOYA website for the submission guidelines.
Teen photographers whose pictures are published will receive a $50 prize and three copies of the magazine.
Let us know if you have a photo that you would like to submit to the contest and we will work with you to get it entered!

Livemocha is a new website that has language tutorials and also helps you chat in real time with native speakers. Each lesson has several sections that teach you words using pictures, reading, writing, and listening. You will need a microphone to record yourself and speakers or headphones to listen to the pronunciation.
Livemocha currently has tutorials for the following languages:

- Hindi
- Icelandic
- Italian

- Mandarin Chinese
- Portuguese

- Spanish
I have used Rosetta Stone software before which costs hundreds of dollars and Livemocha is incredibly similiar but with an online community.

In the four-missile version of the image released Wednesday by Sepah News, the media arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, two major sections (encircled in red) appear to closely replicate other sections (encircled in orange). (Illustration by The New York Times; photo via Agence France-Presse)
This photo of Iran’s rocket launch made news last month because it seems to be digitally altered. The Charlotte Observer has created a game to sharpen your skills at recognizing subtle differences between two photos. The game is called Phuzzle! and they have a new photo each week.
